And so I’ll share her birth story… Hopefully not too much info. But don’t worry, I’ll keep it short and sweet…. just like it was!
(and when I’m done, you’ll know why all I have to share is iPhone pictures)
My last Dr.’s appt was on Tuesday June 28th, the day before my due date. I was hurting… the end of pregnancy hurting, but other than wanting to be out of pain, I really wasn’t in a hurry to be “done”. I was just trying to enjoy the last few moments of pregnancy as best I could. But then my doctor told me that she’d be out of town for 4th of July weekend and I panicked! What if she wasn’t there for the delivery? I had the sudden need to have my sweet baby here… to go into labor. So… Tuesday night I had Cliff do acupuncture on me. It hadn’t worked with Carson, but I had to try something. I woke up Wednesday morning still pregnant. Wednesday I had him put accupressure beads on me and I went for a short, but painful walk with my good friend Sherida. At midnight on Wednesday I started having contractions. I timed them for 3 1/2 hours and they started to slow down. DANG! Thursday morning I woke up still pregnant. Thursday night I had Cliff do acupuncture again and then re-apply the acupressure beads. We layed awake until around 1am watching tv and at 1:35 it happened. For the first time in 5 pregnancies my water broke on it’s own! I FLOODED the bed!! My water NEVER breaks! The doctors always have to break it and when they do, I go fast! So the rule is: They can’t break it until I’ve had 4 hours of penicillin ( I’m GBS positive) and until after I’ve had my epidural. So when it broke, I might have freaked out a little. Something told me that this was going to be fast. We called my friend Sherida and I started thowing things at cliff to pack in my bag. My contractions hadn’t started yet, but by the time Sherida arrived at 2am they were coming…just uncomfortable, about 2 minutes apart. We threw stuff in the car and left at 2:05. When we hit the main road I called the hospital and let them know I was coming. I told them that I thought I might go fast and could they please call my doctor and let her know that I was on my way. The nurse told me that they’d be there waiting for me. About 15 minutes into the drive (we live about 40 minutes from the hospital), the contractions started increasing in intesity. I was crying with each one… a few minutes later it was more like screaming. I asked Cliff to drive faster. He told me we were almost there ( still 20 minutes away). Just as we started to roll into Boise I felt it… I felt my sweet baby rotate and descend.. I knew that delivery was close and we needed to hurry. Cliff took the exit to the hospital and I begged him to drive faster. I told him to let the cops chase him… to just hurry!! We made it to the hospital and the guard/valet called for a wheel chair. A nice guy showed up with one and put me in it and started running… I told him he wasn’t going fast enough. ( Later Cliff told me that he was sprinting and that he barely caught up to him after giving the keys to the valet. The only way he found us was to follow my screaming) We made it up to floor 2… Labor and delivery. Cliff took the wheel chair at registration. The registration nurse asked my name… in denial, I asked her for the anesthesiologist. She smiled politely and opened the door for Triage. Cliff rolled me through and I saw the bed… I just wanted to get in that bed!! The nurses must have heard the pushing in my voice because as soon as we reached the bed they grabbed the wheelchair from Cliff and turned it around to rush me through to the real labor and delivery rooms. They knew….. I heard them call for penicillin, I heard them call for my doctor and I heard a nurse say “room 5″… but at this point I could feel her head so I was holding on to the wheelchair arms and pushing up to hold my body off of the seat… They got me to room 5 and Cliff and one of the nurses lifted me onto the bed… It took Cliff and 3 nurses to get my pants off and one of the nurses held her head and told me to blow through it. I gave 2 blows and couldln’t handle it anymore. The last thing I remember saying (yelling) was “Get your hand off of her head!” The nurse let go and my beautiful baby was here! She was huge. She was beautiful. She was perfect. And I was in love!
It was not what I had planned, but every second of it was worth it!

She is just darling & I see each one of the kids in her. Thinking of you & these brand new days & weeks together. Sending lots of love & hugs from Alaska!
These are precious! Congrats to you and your family:)
I really do love her! She is perfect!
Thank you for the pictures of Layla. She’s beautiful!! Looks to me a lot like Carson. I’d love to go and hold that precious bundle! We’re in the middle of clean-up/repair after they tore up our front yard (sewer line repair) yesterday. Dad’s still coughing his head off occasionally. So, it’ll be a few more days when we can come. Hope you are feeling well, Amanda. The baby looks like she’s flourishing. Congratulations, again and thank you for your 21st grandchild and all your hard work in getting her here. Love, Mom Andrews
p.s. Got a brand new computer Monday at Walmart. Chris said it was better than the one he just bought for the same price. It’s
sooooo much faster. I’m excited. Chris gave me his after he bought the new one, but that one started to do crazy things, too, so got a brand new one and I’m glad I did. Give all the kids kisses from me. See you soon.
aaaah, melts.. and melts some more..
beautiful memories captured.
